6 Dallas Firefighters Hospitalized with Inhalation Exposure at House Fire
Six firefighters were hospitalized Friday after responding to a house fire in northwest Dallas.
Jason Evans, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, said crews responded to flames and heavy smoke about 11 a.m. at a one-story home in the 3500 block of Durango Drive. A call log showed more than 30 units responded.
Crews then noticed a change in the color of the smoke and an unfamiliar odor, Evans said, and ordered everyone out of the house.
Officials suspect the culprit was a container of chlorine, according to Evans. Six firefighters who experienced breathing issues from the exposure were taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
